Autumn

Anchored by Trigiani's masterful storytelling that takes you on a worldwide ride of adventure from Hollywood to the shores of southern Italy, this mesmerizing epic is, at its heart, a luminous tale of the most cherished ties that bind. Brimming with larger-than-life characters both real and fictional—including stars Spencer Tracy, Myrna Loy, David Niven, Hattie McDaniel and more—it is it is the unforgettable story of one of cinema's greatest love affairs during the golden age of American movie making. --amazon--

Carrying Albert Home is the funny, sweet, and sometimes tragic tale of a young couple and a special alligator on a crazy 1,000-mile adventure. Told with the warmth and down-home charm that made Rocket Boys a beloved bestseller, Homer Hickam’s rollicking tale is ultimately a testament to that strange and marvelous emotion we inadequately call love.  --amazon--

City on Fire is an unforgettable novel about love and betrayal and forgiveness, about art and truth and rock ’n’ roll: about what people need from each other in order to live . . . and about what makes the living worth doing in the first place.

An exposé of American power that is as disturbing as it is timely, The Devil’s Chessboard is a provocative and gripping story of the rise of the national security state—and the battle for America’s soul.

Drinking in America

Seen through the lens of alcoholism, American history takes on a vibrancy and a tragedy missing from many earlier accounts. From the drunkenness of the Pilgrims to Prohibition hijinks, drinking has always been a cherished American custom: a way to celebrate and a way to grieve and a way to take the edge off. At many pivotal points in our history-the illegalMayflower landing at Cape Cod, the enslavement of African Americans, the McCarthy witch hunts, and the Kennedy assassination, to name only a few-alcohol has acted as a catalyst.

A week before Christmas, a young photographer discovers a plastic-wrapped corpse amidst the sand dunes north of Cape Town. The only thing found on the corpse is a dead iPhone, but it doesn’t take long for the police to identify the body as that of Ernst Richter—the tech whiz behind MyAlibi, an internet service that provides unfaithful partners with sophisticated cover stories to hide an affair. The high-profile murder has already been the subject of fierce media speculation, with questions swirling about the potential for motive: could the perpetrator be one of the countless jilted spouses? An aggrieved client?   --amazon--

Cinderella   DVD

Cinderella is retold respectfully and refreshingly for the new generation. The previous live-action films were all about style. They lacked substance and, unfortunately, heart. Cinderella, however, has style, substance and, most importantly, heart.  --amazon--

Paper towns    DVD

Not your typical teenage love story. I think this is a tale that a lot of people can relate to. Two kids who grow up together, grow apart, one popular, the other not, but in the end, life is not always as it seems. Paper Towns though definitely aimed at the younger crowd of today, crosses the generation barrier as the society gaps formed in public schools are something that every teenager has faced throughout the ages. I truly enjoyed it and think if you go into it with an open mind, you will also.   --amazon--

...Pitch Perfect 2 has a solid amount of humor, drama, and musical bravado. The 2nd act of the movie slows down, and some lines in the movie work, while other lines just don't(or feel too in vein of the original), but Pitch Perfect 2 is a enjoyable film due to the actors/actresses involved, the music, the humor, and the story which has a charming 3rd act.   --amazon--

Southpaw   DVD

Every element in Southpaw is ultra-recognizable. There is the athlete on top of the world who does not respect and control his craft, subsequently falls from grace, and then rises from the ashes, enlightened and enriched. There is the frequent contrasting of the promoter (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson), avaricious and flashy, with the hard-nosed, soulful trainer (an excellent Forest Whitaker). There is even an over-the-top antagonist our hero must fight by the end to complete his arc of redemption with a dash of...healing vengeance? Yes, the wheel is never threatened with reinvention here.  --amazon--
